A prominent economist and longtime public servant, Suahasil previously served as Deputy Finance Minister from 2019 to 2024 under former President Joko Widodo’s administration, continuing in the same capacity into the early years of President Prabowo's Red and White Cabinet (2024–2026).
His transition to the top ministerial role is widely regarded as a move to reinforce policy stability, fiscal discipline, and economic resilience in Southeast Asia's largest economy.
