"Our ancestors of the Indonesian archipelago once reminded us: 'Protect the nation's gateways, and you will preserve the dignity of the nation.' Bali is one of those gateways—a sacred island where nature, culture, and the human spirit exist in harmony."

On Wednesday, July 15, 2026, we had the privilege of meeting Felucia Sengky Ratna, Head of the Bali Regional Office of Immigration, in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Although the discussion lasted only thirty minutes, it offered valuable insights into the important role of immigration in safeguarding Indonesia's national identity.

During the meeting, she emphasized that Bali is far more than one of the world's leading tourist destinations. As the first point of entry for millions of international visitors, Bali serves as Indonesia's face to the world. Every traveler arrives with expectations, while every immigration officer carries the responsibility of protecting not only the nation's borders but also its cultural heritage, local wisdom, and the dignity of the Republic of Indonesia.

She also highlighted the significance of the "Immigration Goes to Village" initiative, describing it as an effort to strengthen public services by reaching communities at the grassroots level. Villages are the guardians of Indonesia's traditions, where customs are preserved, mutual cooperation is practiced, and patriotism is passed from one generation to the next. By bringing government services closer to rural communities, the program aims to improve accessibility, build public trust, and reinforce national unity.

Drawing an analogy to the banyan tree—whose deep roots anchor it firmly to the earth while its wide branches provide shelter to all—she reflected on Indonesia as a nation deeply rooted in the values of Pancasila, enriched by its cultural diversity, guided by spiritual principles, and committed to building a sovereign, dignified, and respected future.

Although the meeting lasted only thirty minutes, its message leaves a lasting impression. Protecting the nation's gateways is not solely the responsibility of the Immigration Office; it is a shared responsibility of every Indonesian citizen to safeguard the country's heritage and ensure that the legacy entrusted by previous generations—and ultimately by God—continues to inspire future generations.
